The habitat was described as the interface between the gravel
outwash plains along the west flank of the mountains and the active sand dunes still farther west (Arnold 1984).
These deposits are mostly on
outwash plains that resulted from erosional events associated with Wisconsin glaciation (Willman and Frye 1970, King 1981).

The topography of the Wabash River ranges from a plain of mostly clay till interspersed with looping belts of rolling, hummocky ridged morainic upland to rolling plains underlain by loess, till, and bedrock with broad valley flats underlain by thick deposits of alluvium,
outwash, and lake deposits (Schneider 1966).
