Abdominal
sternites without discal setae,
sternite with exceptional long posterior marginal setae (Fig.
Metasoma slender, tergite I 2.6 times as long as posteriorly broad, with convergent lateral carinae present only anteriorly;
sternite I with an apically acute, thorn-like ventral projection posteriorly, tergite II-IV 1.2-1.4 times as long as posteriorly broad with presence of two smooth tubercles.
The family is characterised by the absence of trichobothria on the antennae; the presence of mostly symmetrical, unsegmented chitinous hooks at tip of abdomen; a maximum of four placoid sensilla on terminal article of antennae; thorax with two pairs of spiracles on
sternites II and III; abdominal
sternite 1 with a pair of styles and a pair of lateral subcoxal organs.
The genus Colpocephalum, as found on the Accipitriformes, is characterized by combs of short spiniform setae restricted to the venter of femora III and abdominal
sternite III, but the ventral sclerites bearing setae between the vulva and anus are absent in females.
The larval stage of Ischyomius is known (author's collection and material borrowed from Jim McClarin) but is yet undescribed; it exhibits the following general features: body elongate, parallel-sided, only slightly flattened dorsoventrally; head with 5 stemmata (3 anterior and 2 posterior); urogomphal plate with dorsal tubercles and multiple inner teeth on urogomphi;
sternite 9 with transverse row of asperities.
Remarks: Khaghaninia and Hosseini (2013) gave the following diagnostic characters of this species as
sternite 4 and
sternite 3 having equal length.

To this purpose, 100 individuals were induced to expose their sternal gland stretching the abdominal
sternite with a needle.

The pseudoscorpions were confirmed as nymphal stages including three tritonymphs and nine deutonymphs; they were positioned ventrally, attached to
sternite II using both of their pedipalps.
