The section on cats contains a description of a type of forest cat called a medaka, which is said to be the best amongst cats (132, verse 865: medakas capi jayante marjaresuttama vane); I take this to be a civet cat of sorts.
Male Japanese medaka fish, genetically modified to grow 83 percent larger than normal, were introduced into a mixed population of unmodified medakas.
Howard found that the larger transgenic males mated three times for every time the natural-bred males did--not surprising, considering the premium that female medakas place on male size.
